Among the main characteristics are the high proteinic content and its fatty acids qualities, similar to fish and marine animals as it has a large number of unsaturated fatty acids, both linoleic and linolenic acids.

In recent research by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) showed that the apparent earthworm meal digestibility in dry material was by around 70 percent and the apparent protein digestibility 98 percent.
